Cross Country Championships 2020

On Tuesday 17th March, Mabe School field was finally transformed into a cross country course complete with start/finish flags, fencing and a funnel finish!  It was third time lucky for the event after poor weather put pay to previous dates. All ages from our youngest Nursery children up to our 11-year old Herons took part. There was so much effort put in by everyone, whether they were racing or supporting. It was lovely to hear pupils from other year groups cheering their peers on, willing them to succeed.

The winning girl and boy from each age group received a brightly coloured medal, but it is important to note that we celebrated everyone’s success during the afternoon. There were spot prizes for good sportsmanship, encouragement and effort.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Manning who set up the course, started the races and gave very enthusiastic encouragement.  Thanks must also be given to our Heron helpers who helped marshal the event and also brilliantly assisted when dismantling the course. Well done James, Nyah, Mabel, Daisy and Isla – you were all stars!

Race winners: Nursery – Freddie and Maya; Reception – Jack and Phoebe; Year 1 – Layla T and Jaxon; Year 2 – William and Renee; Year 3 – Zach and Edie; Year 4 – Robson and Laura; Year 5 –Will and Isla; Year 6 – Tom and Isla.

Spot prize winners included:  Tia and Nancy for camaraderie; Oliver, Aiden, Luke W, Jacob and Mia for resilience; Tate for determination & Nyah and Caspian for encouragement.

World Book Day 2020

We had a fantastic day dressed as our favourite book characters. Our whole day was centred around sharing and enjoying stories and developing that love of reading which is so important. They had opportunties to share their love of reading with younger and older children from other classes, taking part in story telling activities throughout the day. To bring a sense of community and family to our day, our grandparents reading event was a huge success with over 40 grandparents attending to read and share stories with their grandchildren. As a school we aim to instil a love of reading from an early age and continue to enhance this throughout their years at Mabe School. These events aim to show children the enjoyment that comes from reading as well as giving them memorable experiences that will last them a life time.
